Choosing A vs B grade in edge-glued oak panels

In edge-glued oak panels, grade describes the permitted face appearance — the number and size of knots, colour variation and presence of heart — not load capacity or glue-bond quality, which stay the same.
A grade gives a calm, even face with minimal features and suits visible surfaces and light finishes. B grade allows more natural character and is more economical for hidden surfaces or a rustic look.
Many buyers mix grades — e.g. A/B, where one face is calmer — to optimise cost against where the panel is installed. Send us your application and target price, and we will suggest a grade and lamella layout.
